The EU TWIST (Tidal Wave in Southern Tyrrhenian Sea) was an exercise held by the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism which featured the Flash Environmental Assessment Tool+ (FEAT+) methodology.
The exercise was held in Salerno, Italy from 24-27 October in 2013. The exercise brought together 24 participants from Italian Civil Protection in conjunction with the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. The exercise included rope rescue, maritime rescue and environmental assessment through the FEAT+ methodology. A four-hour intensive training on the FEAT methodology trained participants in identifying and assessing environmental impacts of disasters. Given the positive response on the FEAT methodology and applicability during the exercise, Italy proposed to advocate for use of the FEAT and for the FEAT to be institutionalized as a standard tool at the EU.
