Environmental Emergencies & FEAT Training – Armenia

In June 2015, the representatives of the UNEP/OCHA Joint Unit (JEU) went on mission to Armenia to deliver training on Environmental Emergencies and FEAT Integration. The training of 41 participants involved a field trip to the Lori region to discuss tailings management and community multi-hazard risk assessment using the Flash Environmental Assessment Tool (FEAT), due to safety concerns about a local copper mining company expanding their tailings facility in the area.

The mission supported the Crisis Management State academy in integrating environmental emergency aspects into the educational curricula. Additionally, the JEU delivered a Training of Trainers for the teaching staff of the Academy on the use of FEAT methodology and on environmental emergencies. Activities were undertaken in the framework of a project funded by Switzerland in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and OCHA.
