The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organisation established by the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The framework of the SCO outlines the cooperation between the participating Member States regarding political, economic, cultural and humanitarian sectors, including prevention and response to emergency situations. The environmental aspects of the SCO is aimed towards strengthening cooperation in the field of energy, seeking to reduce the negative impact on the environment and to contribute to the transition to an energy-efficient economy.
Among the key priorities of the organisation is targeting the use of renewable and alternative sources of energy as well as supporting the wider use of various cost-effective and environmentally friendly forms of energy.
